I remember 1975 but couldn't really quit I was just a kid. Then there was the "new light" on the generation in the 90's. It still didn't hit me until I read Crisis of Conscience about all the other false prophecy. I was in the truth my whole life and was not aware of any of this or how the GB really works. I still don't know if that would have completely changed my mind. However there was the perfect storm of the above, encouraged lack of education, total lack of genuine love in the congregation and above all else the sex abuse cases. I just couldn't keep selling this to my kids. It helped that my husband saw it this way at the same time. Once it all came together, I could never go to another meeting again. I guess it took about 8 yrs. Slow learner.

Most JWs Don't Leave The "Truth" Even If They Recognize The Lie
by minimus ini believe that very few witnesses leave the organization when they just "know" things aren't right.
it's too much for most people to deal with.
they need time to assimilate what they're taking in.

What is the financial cost to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses?
by Thechickennest inhas anyone ever figured out what the cost is to be an average active jw?
i am thinking of the jw costume of clothes for the whole family & drycleaning.
the four door sedans, the fuel, repairs, and auto cleaning up costs after running a shuttle service at least serveral times a week.

We were just talking about this today on a family shopping trip. How nice it was to buy a few "fun" clothes for the kids instead ties and dress pants, it seems like somebody was always outgrowing something to wear out in service or to meetings ( very hard to keep growing boys in suits, dress shoes and dress coats). We also talked about how much it would have cost to drive in our rural territory. I would spend the rest of the day cleaning the car, finding watchtowers for tommorrow and ironing those dress shirts( being pissed off ). I noticed I was never able to work more than a few days a week because I was constantly getting ready for a meeting, service, hall cleaning, circuit assembly, district assembly, circuit overseer, special weeks of activity and preparing talks. Now I am able to work more (seems effortless). We, for the first time in our lives, relax and enjoy evenings and weekends. Doing some charity work in our community that people actually appreciate Priceless

You Feel Free to Discuss Politics NOW.
by compound complex ingreetings fellow members,.
because of some convoluted reasoning based on so-called christian neutrality, jws do not discuss the taboo "political issues.
" accordingly, there are supposed true accounts in awake!

I have always had an interest in politics (even when I was in). Listen to talk radio and watch alot of cable news. But I do feel more free to discuss now.

That bit is from a show called Crank Yankers it was on comedy central a few years ago. It was voices of comedians (that was Wanda Sykes) then puppets would act out the skits. It was very funny, I don't know why it was canceled. Thanks for the reminder.

I am in a place of just enjoying my freedom right now. I haven't explored any other religions yet. We are even having a hard time reading the Bible, you just still seem to read it through JW glasses or something. However, I am enjoying just hearing what other people have to say about their thoughts and beliefs for a change, listening and not having to dominate the conversation with all of life's answers.

My wife has Paranoid Personality Disorder
by Witness 007 inmy wife accused me of putting sleeping pills in her tea so i could turn her best friend against her???
she says everyone at work is against her so one saturday she quit and went to another city {her mums}sydney to start a new life.....she found it to be alot more expensive so she asked me if she could come back.
i told her it's half her house and she can come and go as she wants.....then she asked me to buy her a plane ticket back since she blew her last paycheck {$900} on clothes and laser hair removal.

Here in the states she could be admitted for a 72 hour observation (pink slipped) if she is a danger to herself or others, that would include not being able to care for herself. It sounds as if she is approaching this level of dysfunction. If you feel this is the case, call the police or take her to the ER for a psych assessment.

The WT Says: Young women should be like like cows (sex advice)
by inkling insorry if this has allready been talked about, but does anyone remember running across this gem from a 1961 wt?.
--- how can girls guard against temptation in this sex-crazy world?.
when a girl reaches the age of puberty or physical maturity, her body has developed in the matter of sex more than in the mind.

I agree with James Woods. Many of them are genuine but totally lack skills for pastoral counseling. Then there are power hungry ones that seem to have to have others below them to feel good about themselves. Unfortunately these are usually the ones that "climb to the top" and are the most visible.

My mom took care of my children a few days a week. I did not pay her, she would have been offended. I would always buy them nice presents or pick up little odds and ends for them. She said Grandma took care of me and she wanted to return the favor. However it was only about 2 days a week and she still went on vacations or had schedule changes and we had to make other arrangements. I say full time childcare is too much for a grandma. Could you cut back a few days or take a vacation? Could she work "off" shifts or weekends so that mom and dad share more childcare time and it would only be a couple of the gap hours for you. I hope you get some well deserved time off soon!

I cant't get over how stuff keeps coming up that I totally forgot about. Well, I didn't even get those cute answers like they were for fertilizer and for the angels to play with, that would have shut me up at least until I was about ten. I got the Lisavegas420 answer "they were from the DEVIL, let's not even talk about it" Imagine how scared I was sitting in third grade science class talking about those devils the entire year.
